Under the close supervision of the County Assessor, or designated administrator, performs appraisals and collects taxes on taxable tangible personal property in Weber County.
Example of Duties:
Discover, inspect, appraise, list and estimate the taxable value of personal property. Recommend accounts for auditing and perform audits as assigned. Inspect completed personal property signed statements for accuracy and completeness and resolve discrepancies in statements as necessary. Assist customers with filing personal property signed statements, determine proper classification, and valuation of all types of tangible assets. Verify all personal property build permits are accounted for and monitor commercial real property permits for personal property increases. Perform field work for business accounts. Verify business account contact information is accurate, investigate business relocations, closures and changes to ownership. Monitor delinquent accounts and collection processes, make contact by phone and/or written correspondence to ensure the collection of tax. Research real property records and secure payment by attaching personal property taxes to the real property when necessary. Work with the Department of Motor Vehicles to ensure vehicles are assessed the correct aged-based or value-based fee. Assist customers in applying for motor vehicle refunds. Maintain a cash box and adhere to the Weber County cash handling policy and procedure. Ensure daily deposit is completed in a timely manner. Has basic knowledge of the Farmland Assessment Act. Understand and comply with all Utah laws regarding ad valorem personal property. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: Four (4) years of full-time experience performing accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or appraisal duties. Preference in experience performing real or personal property appraisal, OR any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must obtain designation as a Personal Property Appraiser by the Utah State Tax Commission within eighteen (18) months of hire date. Must possess a valid Utah Driver License (or the ability to obtain one), have good driving record, and at least the minimum level of auto insurance as dictated by Utah law.
