Under the general supervision of the division director, performs professional nursing services. Registered Nurses CF - Correctional Facility performs a wide variety of vocational nursing duties, including hands-on-care, testing, and treatment of patients; interviewing patients, and assisting them in follow-up care; maintaining medical and medication supplies; assisting in emergency medical treatment; administering medications; and maintaining charts and records. The focus of duties is on hands-on medical treatment of short-term, chronic, and acute care patients, as part of a medical treatment team. Positions of the class of Registered Nurse - Correctional Facility are typically located in County Correctional Facilities. These positions are not utilized in county Public Health Centers/Clinics or Public Health/Field Services.
Example of Duties:

Will perform the following duties: Perform physical assessments of patients and/or residents. Charts and reports observations. Refers patients requiring further evaluation or treatment to a physician, or other health care professional. Administers prescribed medications, charts medications given, and observes and reports any reactions. Applies topical treatments, as ordered. Maintains surveillance of critical patients and reports any changes in condition. Orders and inventories supplies and medication, as needed. May administer intravenous lines, nasal gastric tubes, or gastric tubes, as prescribed. May collect blood, urine, or other tissue samples. May coordinate and schedule patients for services in various specialty clinics. Performs related work as required.
Education and Experience:
Required education, training and experience: A. Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a Registered Nurse. AND B. Experience: No experience required. OR any equivalent combination of education and experience, providing that the experience is in the appropriate field.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities: A. Knowledge: Considerable knowledge of nursing principles and skills, sanitation, nutrition, epidemiology, and communicable disease. B. Abilities: Ability to handle medical instruments and equipment; ability to discharge evaluative and clinical functions with initiative and capability; ability to use tact and good judgment in varying situations; ability to follow written and verbal instructions; ability to meet and deal with different types of institutional patients; ability to complete reports and records.
Must be currently registered with the Utah State Board of Nursing Examiners. Must have a valid Utah Driver's License and a good driving record. Must be willing to work shift work when required.
