Murder

  • Intentional or knowing killing
  • Conduct creating a grave risk of death
  • First-degree felony
  • Penalty: 15 years to life in prison
  • Eight-person jury
  • Victims’ families may address the court at sentencing

Aggravated Murder

  • Intentional or knowing killing under specific statutory circumstances
  • Includes crimes involving children, peace officers, or multiple victims
  • First-degree felony
  • Possible penalties: life with parole, life without parole, or death
  • Twelve-person jury required
