How was your experience with the Recorder/Surveyor's office?

What does a County Recorder do?

  • Record, store, and retrieve land documents in the public record.
  • Assist the public in locating real property parcels on ownership plats.
  • Assist the public in locating records.
  • Provide copies of documents for a fee.

The County Recorder Does Not:

  • Prepare, notarize or interpret legal documents.
  • Give legal advice.
  • Perform title searches for the public.
  • Furnish legal descriptions over the phone.
  • Research records over the phone.

What does a County Surveyor do?

  • Maintain and monitor survey monuments which control rights for all properties within Weber County.
  • Review Subdivision Plats within unincorportated Weber County, and final local entity plats (annexations) countywide. Approval is required prior to recording.
  • We serve as a repository for all Record of Survey Plats and corner records countywide, and provide copies of those plats and records to the general public.
  • We perform, or arrange for the performance of, all survey work of county owned property, and execute all orders directed to the county surveyor by any court.

The County Surveyor Does Not

  • Provide private surveying services.
  • Resolve boundary disputes.
  • Give legal advice.
  • Police private surveyors, or surveying practices.
