ABOUT
The Weber County Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) Communications Team is comprised of volunteer members that are licensed amateur (HAM) radio operators. The Weber County ARES Communications Team assists Weber County with radio communications during emergencies, emergency exercises, and community events. It is a non-profit organization that serves as an auxiliary of Weber County Emergency Management. Licensed HAM radio operators in Weber County are eligible to become a member of the team upon completion of a satisfactory screening and background check.
TRAININGS
The Weber County ARES Communications Team holds training meetings the first Saturday of every month. These meetings are open to current FCC licensed residents or prospective members of the team.
HOW TO JOIN
- Step 1: Get your HAM radio license
- Visit the ARRL - Home to complete the training and licensing process.
- Step 2: Complete an interest form
- Fill out the Interest Form briefly explaining your qualifications, interest in volunteering, and availability for nets, events, and monthly meetings.
- Step 3: Once your Interest Form is received, if you appear to be a good fit for the team, you will be invited to interview with Weber County ARES Communications Team Leadership and Weber County Emergency Management. A background check is required for all team members.
